Announcement ~ The Astoria

It is with great sadness we announce that one of London’s most iconic venues will be closing its doors before the end of the month. The Astoria is London’s best known music venue and is due to be demolished to make way for a Crossrail project that will install a new train line linking the east and west of the capital.

On top of daily shows from the biggest current bands on the circuit, the Astoria has in the past played host to the Rolling Stones, Prince, U2, Foo Fighters, Eminem, David Bowie, Nirvana, Radiohead, Alice Cooper, Black Crowes, and Black Sabbath amongst many other world-class acts.

The Astoria 2 will also be going as part of the Crossrail project. Sitting in the underbelly of the Astoria with a capacity of 1000, it too has a reputation for playing host to some of the freshest and most exciting bands on the scene. With its fair share of prestigious shows, the Astoria 2 holds claim to a similarly stellar rock’n’roll heritage, with artists such as Iggy Pop, Yoko Ono, Primal Scream, Moby and Metallica, forming part of its history.

Regional Manager, Ivor Wilkins, who has overseen all shows at both the Astoria and Astoria 2 comments;

“Having witnessed over 20 years of incredible music, the loss of such a fantastic venue with its electric atmosphere that few others possess is a terrible shame, and one, unfortunately, we had no control over.
Its history of live music will remain in our hearts; beer-soaked and memory-stained. It is the end of an era. “
