History

Festival Republic, part of the Live Nation Entertainment Group, is the UK’s leading festival and event promoter, boasting a portfolio of well-known brands including the country’s biggest music festivals Reading & Leeds, as well as Latitude, Wireless, Wilderness, The Great Escape and Electric Picnic in Ireland. It also hosts shows at London’s most iconic outdoor music venues: Finsbury Park, Crystal Palace Park and Gunnersbury Park. Spearheaded by Melvin Benn the story started over 30 years ago when The Mean Fiddler took over the Reading Festival in 1989 and Melvin created ‘The Festival Office’ to sit alongside and produce festivals with Mean Fiddler. Melvin has been instrumental in achieving things that have helped shape our culture including creating (with Mean Fiddler and The Workers Beer Company) The Fleadh, the first ever touring music festival with yearly editions in London, Waterford, New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. He created the UK’s first ever 4 day music Festival, Phoenix Festival in 1994 as well as securing the first all night legal dance music festival with Tribal Gathering and Creamfields and of course the extraordinary One Love Concert (with SJM Concerts) in Manchester.

With vast experience in staging the best in entertainment events, Melvin was a director of Glastonbury Festival for over a decade and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wembley Stadium for five years from 2011. Melvin currently sits as a representative on the Concert Promoters Association (CPA), was influential in writing the first Guide to Health and Safety at Outdoor Events (‘the Pop Code’), and made many regular presentations to the Emergency Planning College, the police, and other bodies.

Curating line-ups that feature the best talent we are passionate about supporting up-and-coming artists as well as showcasing global superstars. Held together by operational excellence, creative production, and the ability to evolve and adapt.
